The Classics and the New
I'm about to play a Jimmy Wayne song I really like called "You Believe Me Now?" which ALWAYS brings to mind Vern Gosdin's beautiful song, "Do You Believe Me Now?" I'm so glad Rick Rhodes does that Sunday In the Country With Rick Rhodes so I can still hear some of those classics I miss so much. When I get to yearning for the music of my youth, it's classic country, as I began my broadcasting career in 1976...so I have memories mixed in with that music.
The good thing is I have these favorites at home and can listen to them any time I'm off work. ;-)
As I continue down this memory road, I will also tell you of the MANY stars I have had the privilege of meeting and/or interviewing over the years, the Mighty Merle Haggard was the kindest, and the most interested in my conversation and company. I was rather disappointed in the very small crowd who came to Hulman Center to see this living legend perform, but he didn't seem to mind. He did a wonderful job and I got to visit with him again afterwards, on his tour bus. We drank whiskey from the same bottle, LOL
In the picture, Merle was signing (MANY) autographs for servicemen all over the world who had asked me for his autograph. Something tells me if those soldiers had been in town, we would have had a much bigger turnout. Merle will always be my favorite celebrity. I even got his home phone number for our next interview, and he picked up the phone himself. So humble and impressive to me.
