Today is not only April Fool's Day, it is also my "work" anniversary! Eighteen years ago today, Barry Kent took a big chance on me. I had practiced radio in this town, but always had my sites set on working at the number one station in the area, HI99 WTHI. I came on as part of the morning show but it only took a few years to realize I wanted to do my own show, I wanted to be myself, and not part of "The Waking Crew."
In the middays, I am at my happiest. I get to play the most music and interact with the most fascinating people around: that would be you!!
Also recently, we adopted a beauty of a black lab, Minuet. That's her picture above if I did everything right. She's only two, so she still has some puppy in her and wow, does the world ...
I love country awards shows because they are all about country music and the artists who bring it to us, but it has to be a really slow evening for me to tune in to the Grammy's. After all these years at HI-99, I'm a country girl and rap, hip hop and other genres tend to bore me or cause me to tune out.
The Grammy's are known for unpredictable pairings, fabulous and scandalous gowns, and unscripted moments and I'm sure this year's show was no different. So I tried to watch it, I really did. I saw Carrie Underwood on the red carpet in a stunning black gown that might be the prettiest dress I ever saw. And wow, that necklace was worth over thirty thousand dollars, did I get that right?
But when it came time to perform, the star donned a powder blue ball gown that featured ...
Is it just me or does it seem like FOREVER since American Idol started promoting Keith Urban as one of its judges?
Season 12 of the fabled show will feature new judges Keith Urban, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, in addition to familiar faces Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest. I've been reading of spats between the two female judges but it's watching Keith critique and mentor that I am really looking forward to.
Interestingly (or not) the aging series is trying something new this year.
The premiere is Jan. 16 and 17 (8-10 p.m., Fox-TV).
But on Jan. 9, fans in 11 cities across the country will have the exclusive opportunity to see the Season 12 premiere episode for free. It's being shown on cinema screens at 7pm in several cities, including New York, Chicago and Dallas.
Are we among those cities? OF course not. BUT if you are a ...
Happy New Year (a bit belated)! There is something so fresh, exciting and inviting about turning the calendar to a brand new year. We have a new chance to "get it right," an opportunity to be a better person, a responsibility to do the best we can in our circumstances. I am blessed to have some pretty great examples in my family, but even more in the daily walks of those around not only my life, but yours as well.
Take, for example, the story of Notre Dame's Manti Te'o, who played through unbelievable loss and sorrow. I heard about him on the CBS morning news today, but you can read his inspiring story here: http://kansan.com/sports/2012/10/10/morning-brew-notre-dame-star-playing-through-emotional-pain/. Talk about putting my own relatively minor obstacles in perspective. That's Manti pictured above.
A new year is a chance to make smarter choices. Mine started with my birthday last week. Dave was on ...
It's time to bake the cookies again; bells and stars and Christmas trees and angels and shooting stars and, of course, Jolly Old Sant Nick.. Baking sugar cookies is one of my favorite things to do, it truly brings back my childhood,. though it also makes me wonder where my mother found the patience to undertake this task with five small children, all eager to help out. What a mess we must have made!
Honestly, it's taken me a few years to really get back in the holiday spirit but there's no stopping me now.
So it's time to make lists, buy ingredients, then somehow find the time to actually bake and frost these delicious cookies, but find the time I must because the truth is, frosting them is like a form of therapy for me. Dave will help me bake the sugar cookies, I find that part to be ...
Well, we know the answer to that question now because Gary called me today and sang to me...twice! You'll have to listen to the interview to hear Gary's favorite song, how he feels about travel with the Flatts' boys, why he's coming to town in February, and hear how funny and candid he can be when he lets us have a peek behind the curtain that is the magic of Rascal Flatts.
I have to say, his faith is what came across strongest in our interview, and his appreciation of where he is today rang through pretty clearly as well.
I hope you will take a few minutes to listen to Gary and I talk about music, football and Rascal Flatts shows!
Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later: they needed new pictures for the website. Since my last photos were taken, I have gained a boyfriend and too many pounds to name, after all it changes all the time. What matters is that I have never been happier in my life, that each day is a new adventure, that my family loves him and he thinks they're terrific.
There is one little thing, though. He prefers to see me without makeup. He says he loves my face the way it is, not with colorful embellishments. He tells me I'm pretty, even beautiful, every day. He never lets me forget he loves me just the way God made me.
But this was a picture for the website, for all the world to see! And it's been years since I have even tried to put on makeup. So I asked for ...
It's time once again for one of the country's biggest festivals, and it happens right here in our own back yard: Parke County, Indiana. Welcome to the thousands of folk who will come to visit the historic, picturesque bridges of our area. Enjoy the unique tastes of Indiana festival food. I especially recommend the town Square in Rockville. Local charitable organizations traditionally surround the town square, offering such delectible delights as Pumpkin Ice Cream and, in my recollection, one of the biggest grilled pork chops I have ever seen. Please do brave the crowds for the treats on the square in Rockville, you will be supporting charitable organizations in their biggest fundraising event of the year.
My personal favorite spot is Bridgeton. This tiny town will be lined with vendors with all the variety you've come to expect from Covered Bridge. Fried Cheese from Wisconsin. Home made treasures from local ...
This summer has been brutal for gardeners (and yes, farmers of course). We lost all our potted plants during the drought. Recent rains have refreshed my beautiful lawn but wow, the combination of sun and rain the past few weeks has rejuvenated my roses and my garden is a riot of color right now.
Mom and Dad gave me three rose bushes for Mother's Day, so when they were blooming so spectacularly yesterday, I took the time to snap some pictures to send to them. One is called Romance Red. Must confess, red is my least favorite rose but THIS red, is...well, indescribably beautiful. I have tried to take pictures of them in bud, in vases, and now the whole bush...but this red is so vibrant it's practically neon.
My rose garden has been so prolific I have been able to bring our station's Sales Assistant Cheri a bouquet every ...
