Ever wondered how snake venom could affect your blood?

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/17/2014 1:33:00 PM

I came across this interesting video that demonstrates the effects of just a single drop of venom from a Russell's Viper. You really have to see it to actually believe it!

85% of snakes are not venomous. In fact, of the 2,700 known species of snakes, only about 30 of them pose any kind of threat.  Let’s find out what happens when a single drop of the viper’s venom is added to human blood….

#TBT the guys of HI-99 shaving their heads for the kids at St. Jude

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/17/2014 10:16:00 AM

Remember last year when Kyle West threw out the idea of us shaving our heads if we reached a certain dollar amount during the 2013 HI-99 Country Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon at Honey Creek Mall? I think we were all a little nervous to do this one, but happy to do it after you stepped up and became a Partner in Hope with St. Jude or made a one-time donation. My head had never been so cold and a hat became my new best friend. I was sure happy my hair has always grown pretty fast. Watch the video Kyle West shot below as Barry Kent and I were the first to go under the clippers for the haircut we'll never forget.....

Hootie is back!

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/16/2014 2:34:00 PM

I interviewed new artist Joel Crouse today and he recently caught up with Darius Rucker on his True Believers tour for a backstage jam session on Joel's latest episode of #DressingRoomSessions. Something fun he started while on tour with Taylor Swift where he and a fellow country artist just sit down backstage and do what they do best. Joel talked Darius into doing the song, "Hold My Hand" from his days with Hootie & the Blowfish.....

Interview with country newcomer Joel Crouse

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/16/2014 1:13:00 PM

I love it when a plan comes together or at least when an interview goes well! I have a feeling anything that has to do with new artist Joel Crouse goes well every time. Joel joined me on the Union Hospital Quality Healthcare studio line this afternoon to talk about his new tune, "Why God Made Love Songs," which was today's Lunchtime Find sponsored by Rick's Smokehouse and Grill. We also chatted about working as well as touring with Toby Keith, The Band Perry, Taylor Swift, Darius Rucker and Brad Paisley later this summer. Joel talks about his mom getting to meet Toby before he did, Darius Rucker being such a nice guy and his addiction to Lifetime movies. Make sure you follow Joel on Twitter @JoelCrouse, find him on Facebook and Instagram or you can go to for updates. Click the play button to hear the interview and ...

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/15/2014 3:19:00 PM

New artist Branch & Dean were on the road heading west from Indianapolis, so they decided to pop in, say hello and play a few tunes for us this afternoon. The guys are big supporters for Cystic Fibrosis research and have been touched personally by CF.  They played a special song called "The Dash" that talks about living life to its fullest. We also shared their new song, "Glad She's Not an Angel." Check out the full LIVE interview by clicking the play button..... ----->

Häagen-Dazs has a smartphone app...who knew?

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/15/2014 2:00:00 PM

I'm more of a Ben and Jerry's guy, but I do enjoy some Häagen-Dazs every now and then. They've come up with a pretty weird reason for you to buy a pint of their ice cream. It's a hologram of a violin player that appears by using their app on your phone. Apparently she plays for the exact amount of time you should wait for your ice cream to soften up. Watch what happen when you bring two pints of Häagen-Dazs into the picture. The real magic happens at around the 1:40 in mark.....

Ghostbusters 3?

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/10/2014 11:25:00 AM

What's my favorite movie of all time? Ghostbusters, hands down! I can remember it being the first movie I could truly sink my teeth into and never get enough of. I'm pretty sure I had just about everything you could imagine toy-wise with the franchise. I spent most of my free time as a child in my Ghostbuster uniform parading around the house waving my proton pack and annoying the crap out of my parents as I would recite the movie line-by-line while it played in the background over and over. That said; it's clear I've been excited at the sign of any Ghostbuster news and talk of a third movie after the release of the original some thirty years ago. The rumors have been flying around for years, but could they be true this time?

Reporters chatted with director, Ivan Reitman at an event for his new movie, Draft ...

Tuesday's Tunes: A preview of the new albums you should check out

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/8/2014 1:40:00 PM

Martina McBride's "Everlasting"

Martina picked this project because she always wanted to do a cover album of R&B songs. Guests on the album include: Kelly Clarkson and Gavin DeGraw.  Martina is all over TV this week promoting this new album. She was on NBC's Today Show this morning and on the cover of Country Weekly.

One of my favorite songs of all time is "Suspicious Minds." The song was written by Mark James and first made famous by Elvis. There have been many versions/covers since and I think I like just about every single one of them, including Martina's version.....

"Wild Night" written and made famous by Van Morrison. John Mellencamp also had a hit version of the song. Here's Martina's......

High-five anyone?

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/8/2014 12:14:00 PM

So, did George Strait intentionally diss Miranda Lambert by not reacting to her request for a high -five or was he just too distracted by the fact he had just won the ACM Entertainer of the Year award? After all, he did return Keith Urban's high-five right before he got to Miranda. She was quick to react by closing her hand and doing that awkward pull back, but I'm sure she probably felt a little embarrassment as anyone would when you throw it out there to the King of country and he doesn't return it. Was George ignoring Miranda? Watch the video and decide for yourself. Either way it makes me laugh....

Darius Rucker performing the national anthem before last night's championship game

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/8/2014 10:47:00 AM

Are you happy with the end result after UConn won the National Championship last night? Sorry UK fans...wait, no I'm not! That Big 10 rivalry will never allow me to cheer for Kentucky. I was close with my prediction of UConn by four and they won by six for a final score of 60-54. I guess I should’ve gone to Vegas to place a bet like that.

Before the game, Darius Rucker rocked our national anthem accompanied by the Jazz Singers vocal ensemble from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performance and Visual Arts in Dallas. This isn't the greatest video to recap the performance, but it allows you to see it if you missed it like I did.....

An amazing new gun that could quickly treat severe burn victims

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/7/2014 1:58:00 PM

WARNING: This video contains graphic material and is not intended for those who may have a weak stomach.

I came across this earlier this morning and almost didn't watch as I didn't want to become squeamish after watching this, but it is truly too remarkable to pass up. The usual techniques for treating patients with severe burns can take several weeks or even months to take effect. During this time the treated skin is highly sensitive and can be easily damaged, which ruins the treatment. Many people become ill or even die during this time due to infections that occur while the damaged skin is healing. One doctor has developed a special gun that is intended speed up the process by rapidly building new skin cells. This method could mean life changing solutions for those who have faced severe burns. Think of what this could do for ...

Skydiver almost beamed by a meteorite

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/4/2014 1:26:00 PM

Are you a thrill seeker? I'd like to think I am, but I am human and still get freaked out before doing something with a little danger involved. I usually get too worked up before I even go through with the excitement and sometimes talk myself out of doing it. I love roller coasters, recreational vehicles, riding in planes, etc. But, would you ever jump out of a plane? Skydiving is something that has always intrigued me and I'm surprised I haven't yet. My girlfriend and I have talked about making this the year we take the leap. I'm a little nervous after watching this video though. The odds of this actually happening are pretty ridiculous, but this shows a skydiver almost getting hit by what experts think was meteorite a during a jump. This actually took place back in 2012, but the skydiver didn't realize it until he watched ...

The Lion King musical cast sings "The Circle of Life" on a plane

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/2/2014 2:28:00 PM

You may not know this, but I'm not exactly the musical type. Shocking, I know. I'm hoping you caught a whiff of sarcasm there. I did however love the Lion King musical when I saw it back in 2009 I think it was at the then Murat Theater in Indianapolis with my girlfriend at the time for her birthday. It was amazing! If this gives you any glimpse as to how awesome it was...I, yes me a man, Jeff Reynolds was in tears after the opening scene. Say what you will about masculinity and all, but it was a powerful performance by a world class cast. That cast broke out into the song "The Circle of Life" while they were on a recent flight to Sydney, Australia and they were really into it! This puts the Harlem Shake on a plane to shame....

A quick look at the new music out today

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 4/1/2014 1:53:00 PM

"Turn It Up" by Josh Thompson. We've been spinning his song, "Cold Beer With Your Name On It" for a while on HI-99 and we're about to see what Josh has with the new album.

"Where It All Began" by Dan + Shay. Looks like it could be a bright future for this duo. You may have caught their new song "19 You + Me" a few times on HI-99.

"Off the Grid: Doin' It Dylan", Bob Dylan cover album by The Charlie Daniels Band. I did not know this, but Charlie Daniels  played guitar on a few Dylan albums.

"A Dotted Line" by Nickel Creek. For those who love bluegrass as much as me!

Earthquake rocks Dodger stadium during a game

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 3/31/2014 2:31:00 PM

Los Angeles was hit by a 5.1 magnitude quake during a Dodger game just three days before opening day. Apparently most fans didn't realize it was happening as they're so used to it, but longtime broadcaster, Vin Scully delivered the play-by-play as calm as possible during the somewhat large tremors. What a pro!

The Dixie Chicks actually make news w/a video

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 3/31/2014 10:55:00 AM

I almost didn't watch this video as I scoffed and started to scroll on, but I'm happy I stopped to watch. The Dixie Chicks are still performing live shows.....Yeah, I didn't know that either. They had a gig in London earlier this month and rocked a cover of “Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus. Let me say that again, so you don't mistake it for a typo; The DIXIE CHICKS did a killer version of "Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus. I couldn't tell you the last time I was able to talk about the Chicks in a positive manner and Miley annoys/disgusts most of us these days. Don't hesitate to watch it like I did because it's the Chicks covering a Miley song. They still sound incredible! Sorry for the video quality as it’s fan recorded. You can still hear how awesome it is.....

What am I currently listening to?

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 3/28/2014 10:35:00 AM

I played a new song by newcomer, Charlie Worsham this morning at 10:30 called “Want Me Too” and it’s already becoming one I look forward to playing for you. Believe it or not, probably my favorite song from 2013 was “Could It Be” from Chuck. I’ll always remember my first experience with seeing/meeting Charlie as he opened for Miranda Lambert in 2011 shortly after I arrived at HI-99. This is what’s stuck in my head this morning. Listen/watch below and you can also check out his new song after that….

The power of hearing

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 3/28/2014 7:38:00 AM

Tell me I'm not the only one who has played out this scenario with friends or in your head…If you had to choose, would you rather go deaf or blind? Terrible thing to think about and no one wants to lose either, but for me, it's without a doubt blind. Sure it would be crushing to find out you're losing your sight and will never see this beautiful earth or look into the eyes of a loved one, but in a way that's small potatoes for me. I would absolutely miss my sight and it would take a very long time to get over such a blow. I'm not saying one might be better in any way, but hearing to me is the most beautiful gift in life. Picture more music, no more birds chirping, no more talking or singing without a little embarrassment,  no more hearing the words ...

Small steps sometimes make the biggest difference

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 3/27/2014 6:44:00 AM

It's no secret I'm a bit overweight (putting it lightly here) and I'm prone to weight gain when it comes to stress, major life changes, celebration or if I'm just looking for something to do. My parents were huge fans of going out to eat, so we did quite a few times during the week. My mom cooked and is a damn good cook, but we lived in the country next to a town of about 19,000 people. Late night trips to Walmart were sometimes considered fun. There just wasn't much to do when it comes to entertainment. I bring up my parents, because this trend rubbed off heavily on me. No, I'm not blaming them or using this as an excuse. It's just a habit I'm not proud of. I can make some killer meals and several in advance to prepare for the work week (if I put my ...

Where would they be now?

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 3/26/2014 7:50:00 AM

Something I've often pondered over time with artists such as Jimi Henrdix, John Belushi, Heath Ledger, Chris Farley and many more. There's a Dutch beer company that has almost painted that picture for us with Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Tupac Shakur, Kurt Cobain, Marilyn Monroe and Bruce Lee. The commercial idea is that these stars are alive and well, but have just been hiding out all these years. I love this idea and creativity, but I'm not sure this humor would ever fly in the US without some folks a little disturbed by seeing this. Enjoy!

A taste of CMT Crossroads w/Dierks Bentley & One Republic

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 3/12/2014 3:04:00 PM

This big debut for this collaboration is a week from Friday (March 21st).  It's an odd pairing, but just odd enough to make me really want to see how this will play out. Here's a sample of Dierks on my favorite One Republic song, "Counting Stars." Enjoy!

Willie Nelson cancels shows due to a shoulder injury and someone stole his armadillo

Posted By: Jeff Reynolds · 9/26/2013 7:49:00 AM

Willie Nelson's shoulder injury is forcing him to cancel all of this week's shows, including his appearance in Carmel, Indiana last night (rescheduled for August 23rd 2014). Plus, he had to bow out of Zac Brown's Southern Ground Music & Food Festival Saturday in Nashville. According to CMT, Willie hopes to be ready for his October 15th show in Louisville, Kentucky. That's also when his duets album "To All The Girls" will be released.

Also, a woman concert goer walked right on stage during the tear-down portion of his show in Port Chester, New York last week and stole the band's a stuffed armadillo, which serves as a good luck charm and mascot for the band. Willie Facebooked a message asking for its return.  He also included a video of the thief in action. Watch for the dark-haired woman in the sleeveless black top in the video below. She picks ...
