New York Giants player puts Terre Haute in the national spotlight!
As many of you know, I'm still fairly new to the Wabash Valley and I'm learning all sorts of cool facts about my new home! Perhaps one of the coolest things that I've recently found out is that one of Terre Haute's own is playing for the New York Giants in the big game this Sunday. Steve Weatherford attended Terre Haute North Vigo High School, where he played punter, kicker and safety for the Patriots. Steve then moved on to attend the University of Illinois from 2001 to 2005. Weatherford was signed to the NFL as an undrafted free agent in April of 2006 by the New Orleans Saints. He was released by New Orleans in early September only to be re-signed later the same month where he played until he was released in 2008. Steve also had stints with the Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets and finally singing with the team across town, the New York Giants in July of 2011. Everyone in the Wabash Valley loves to talk about one of their own and I have heard nothing but great things about the man and the athlete. Steve holds many high school and college football records and has earned several awards and accolades in his lifetime. He is married to his wife Laura. They two have a son, Ace, and a daughter, Carney. This great player is just one more reason why I will be pulling for a Giants win this Sunday in Indianapolis!
